The unique design of Glass Expansion’s new ceramic-tipped POP Radial Interface Kit matches the sensitivity of the standard quartz periscope (Radial) window, but eliminates the cloudiness and rapid sample build-up seen with a quartz window (P/N 31-808-2677 or 842312051591). A ceramic tip design was also chosen to provide a higher temperature resistance compared to the quartz options.

A Thermo Fisher Scientific® 6000 Duo ICP-OES was used for the performance comparison of Glass Expansion’s ceramic-tipped POP Radial Interface Kit to a quartz POP Radial window. A multi-element solution containing 10ppm As, Se, Mg, Mn, Ni, Na and K, and 5ppm Cu and Mn in 2%HNO3 was used for the evaluation.

For the low UV wavelengths, solutions containing 20ppm Al in H2O and 10ppm S and P in 2%HNO3 were used. The alignment of both types of Radial windows were confirmed using the standard Thermo Fisher Scientific® alignment tool.

Figure 2, below shows the normalised sensitivities for a quartz radial POP window and Glass Expansion’s ceramic-tipped POP Radial Interface Kit as a function of wavelength. The results presented indicate no significant differences in sensitivities for the two types of optical windows.
